We have discovered the intra-cellular anti-apoptotic protein Livin, and established its pivotal role in apoptosis regulation. Furthermore, we found that over-expression of Livin within Melanoma cells is responsible for their resistance to apoptotic-enhancing chemotherapeutic agents. Surprisingly we found that cleaved Livin, contrary to Livin, has a pro-apoptotic activity.
We suggest new therapeutic agents of adenoviral vectors encoding IL-6/sIL-6R fusion protein (HIL-6) for treating cancers of various types.
